A former work colleague, Dr. Lynn Uzzell, reached out to me recently. She was in the end-game of pulling together a 165,000-word manuscript. A friend had offered to layout the document but had been laid up in bed with a back injury. While they could still do the front cover, the rest of the document would have been too much of a strain. Dr. Uzzell was facing a deadline imposed by external forces and had 10 days to pull this together. “Sure,” I said, “I can do that.” Some 550-pages later, with custom bullet points, illustrations, tables, appendices, endnotes, front matter, folios etc. and 10 days (or thereabouts) the project was done.
Dr. Uzzell was kind enough to forward me a copy. I must admit I giggled a little bit before my brain started picking up some of the errors that wouldn’t have shown up with a longer time budget. Ah well. Still, a fun little project.
